10 years gone: 9/11 remembered

Concert for NYCThroughout US history there has been a small collection of events that have shaped the course of not only individual lives, but also our national psyche as a whole.

The end of World War II, the Kennedy assassination, and the moon landing – these milestones and more all inspire the same question: where were you when…No matter the age and no matter the background we all remember.

Tragically, the date of September 11, 2001 will forever be etched in the pages of history. While there is much to respect about that day – the heroism of first responders, the kindness of strangers, and the emotional outpouring of grief from coast to coast – there remains a sadness and feeling of utter loss that permeates even the hardest of hearts. Even now, 10 years later, the memories sting and loved ones are missed just as much as they were when the towers first fell.

So as a small token of remembrance I share with you a song written to inspire a new set of ideals. The performance speaks for itself.

Watch video of Neil Young performing John Lennon’s classic song “Imagine” during the 2001 benefit concert “America: A Tribute to Heroes” here:

Even though hindsight has altered our view of the events that transpired after 9/11, let us remember the time of healing. Never before do I recall our country feeling so united. And though you may say I’m a dreamer, I believe we can be that way again.

Just imagine.
