Springfield College graduate Adam Sickler competing in Hudson Valley Voice Competition

While some college students spend their school days filling their dorm rooms with pictures, posters and assorted bottles of liquor, Springfield College graduate Adam Sickler spent his undergraduate years filling his room with music.

Before graduating from SC this past May, Sickler transformed his dorm into a small recording studio, where he recorded demos and wrote music both solo and as a part of his college band Waking the Neighbors. Now the current Berklee College of Music student is putting his years of experience to the test as a contestant in the Hudson Valley Voice Competition, which is held at the Lazy Swan Country Club in Saugerties, NY.

Billed as “one of New York State’s largest vocal competitions and the largest singing competition in the history of the Hudson Valley,” the Hudson Valley Voice awards a prize of $10,000 and a two-year lease on a 2012 Subaru Impreza to this year’s winner. And Sickler is hoping that winner will be him.

In a post on his personal Facebook page the young singer wrote, “This is a really important contest for me – possibly the most important performance of my life thus far. It would mean the world to me if my friends could come out and support me in this endeavor, especially since the prize is $10,000 which would come in handy for tuition payments for Berklee.”

Local fans can show their support for the Pioneer Valley resident by texting in a vote, or by watching a live stream of the competition this Friday starting at 7 p.m.
